Guidance & Student Achievement

Many factors contribute to a successful high school career where students can embark on their future with confidence and optimism. It is more important than ever to provide them with tools for coping, problem-solving, and decision-making.  Established in 2022 to honor Mr. U's retirement from 44 years in education, the William E. Unverfehrt Center for Guidance and Student Achievement was created to provide this support. The GSA is completely focused on the mental well-being of each student providing the necessary courage, strength, and hope for their future.

This center includes a School Counselor to guide students through what is often a chaotic and ever-demanding time in their lives.  They will be an advocate for both students and parents, providing holistic support while helping to reduce obstacles in the way of goal-reaching.  Academic Advising is also a part of the center, focusing on academic planning, college planning, and career exploration.

Sarah Smith is our School Counselor for the GSA Center.  Mrs. Smith has been a counselor at both St. Stephens High School and Bunker Hill High School.  Most recently she served at CVCC as the Administrator of the College and Career Promise Program.  She works with all students at UCHS, with an emphasis on helping ninth graders integrate into high school and assisting those who are struggling academically and emotionally.  Mrs. Smith also teaches 9th grade Health classes.  UCHS is blessed to have such an experienced counselor on staff. Stop by and say hello at her office on South Campus in St. Andrew's!

The GSA is completely focused on the mental wellbeing of each student.

The GSA provides the necessary courage, strength and hope for their future.
